The team at Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre came together with a number of community services to ensure they put on an event that was far from a stand-alone, and had something for everyone.
“We had quite a few programs finishing when the event started – our seniors program Living Longer Living Stronger wrapped up at 10am and they all joined in for a coffee and a chat afterwards so they could mix with their grandchildren and the mums in the crèche,” Swim for Life Coordinator Ashleigh Frost said.
“We had a step class finishing up at 10am too, so they all came and joined us for a fruit platter and some healthy sandwiches – it worked out really well.”
Among the stalls were Amity Health, Primary Health Care, the Narrogin Library and Kindilink; the Aboriginal kindergarten from Narrogin Primary School.
The crèche put on a painting station, Primary Health had books and soft padding for children to sit on and read, there was a musician, Kindy Gym, a jumping castle from the Narrogin Lions club, Amity Health had balloons and a face painter – the list goes on!
With so many activities on offer, it’s no wonder the morning was such a great success for the 100+ people who attended.
“It went better than any of us could’ve expected – we were really happy because no one wanted to leave when it was finished! That was fantastic,” Ashleigh laughed.
Elsewhere, YMCA East Cannington Early Learning Centre celebrated the occasion by hosting a lovely afternoon tea for mums, aunties and grandmothers.
Centre Director Mel Flett and her dedicated staff members also collected photographs of the children and their families to create family photo boards in each of the rooms, to reiterate the great importance and value YMCA WA places on family.
With 130,000 events taking place around Australia for National Families Week, YMCA WA is proud to have been involved in the outstanding national initiative.
