The Y Celebrates Eurovision Style

Staff News

Did you know YMCA WA employs almost 650 people state-wide, and provides 58 different services and programs? And did you know throughout last year’s lockdown all services, apart from our gyms, remained open? Many transitioned to online, but wherever possible our Y teams were out in their communities, supporting them during this very unsettling time.

So, to say thanks and celebrate all the incredible staff, their dedication and the efforts they made to overcome the COVID-19 challenges, the Y coordinated four simultaneous events across the state, in Albany, Bunbury, Port Hedland and Perth, and linked them all together via satellite, aka Eurovision style! The result was an exciting celebration like no other!

The night started with thanks from the CEO and executives to all the staff for their inspiring work throughout the past year, then a host of great door prizes, kindly donated by many partners, were pulled out of a hat. Prizes won ranged from an awesome BBQ to a day spa experience, and of course the evening wouldn’t be complete without a synchronised dance to The Village People! We may not be the largest or loudest not for profit, but we are impactful and certainly know how to party and appreciate our team!

We rounded off the year feeling connected to one another during a year where this was seemingly impossible at times, acknowledging what we’ve learnt from the struggles of 2020 and how we’ve come out stronger and better than ever for 2021.
