The Best Summer Party!

Youth

The YTime program at Withers, recently hosted the Best Summer Party event at Des Ugle Park in Bunbury. With the year nearly over and young people in the region feeling the strain of a long school year, the team wanted to give them a fun-filled prelude to the upcoming school holidays.

The Youth Workers received a lot of feedback from the young people about what they enjoy taking part it in, allowing them to contribute to the day.

With over 30 young people from Withers attending, as well as assistance from the Australian Red Cross, South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) and PCYC staff and volunteers, the event was a great success.

The self-proclaimed “sports-mad” young people took part in basketball, soccer and AFL games, while the addition of Bubble Soccer, provided by Bubble Soccer South West, was a huge hit!

For those who were less sporting inclined, arts and crafts activities were provided by PCYC volunteers, while SWAMS and Red Cross staff provided opportunities for young people to make, and of course, eat healthy fruit kebabs.

WA Police YCIOs were also a huge hit with young people, helping out with basketball competitions and giving young people an opportunity to take them on one-on-one in shooting and dribbling competitions. Many participants couldn’t wait to do this, showing off amazing basketball skills and leaving the YCIOs and youth workers is awe of their talent.

With all that exercise and everyone getting hungry, it was time to grab a bite to eat with YMCA WA youth workers on hand to cook up a storm and ensure no one was going home hungry.

With free Y-Time sessions running every Thursday and Friday throughout the year in Withers, the next event is always just around the corner, to find out more please head to www.ymcawa.org.au/withers
