Funding boost for YMCA WA's HQ Leederville

Thanks to a generous grant under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities scheme, HQ Leederville will now be able improve its facilities allowing the multi-purpose events space to now be able to provide a professional grade floor for dance and human movement activities.

The sprung dancefloor project received grant funding from the Australian Government, via the office of the Hon Tim Hammond MP, Federal Member for the electorate of Perth.

YMCA HQ is a community hub, providing events, programs and activities within the arts and performance sector. With a strong focus on young community members, YMCA HQ allows young people to express themselves freely and engage with others in a safe and inclusive environment. The centre, located in Leederville, has a multi-purpose event space which is regularly utilised for live performances and workshops, showcasing local and visiting acts.

Andrew Rigg, HQ Manager, says installation of a sprung dance floor in the HQ event space will increase the use of the space by the community by providing a professional grade floor for dance and human movement activities.

“YMCA WA has wanted to increase the utility of this space by installing specialised flooring suitable for dance and movement purposes. Expanding the uses of such a space will allow YMCA to generate further community engagement, both with young people and the wider community of the Federal Electorate of Perth,” he says.

Research undertaken by YMCA HQ has shown that there is a shortage of suitable spaces in the Perth metropolitan area for these purposes and YMCA HQ is ideally situated to provide access to this space. The installation of the floor and modification of the space will enable dance rehearsals and use by other segments of the human movement sector (including fitness classes, martial arts, acrobatics as well dance in all forms).

HQ is centrally located and very accessible, it is also a well-established youth and community hub.
