Staff at our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Services continually go above and beyond to support the children in their care to flourish.
This dedication was top of mind for Mosman Park OSHC Supervisor Steevie when she developed a new initiative to better assist children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The initiative revolved around an emergency board featuring different coloured flashing lights, each signalling a specific action. For example, a red light indicates to children that they need to evacuate with educators. While a blue light prompts them to quietly gather in the kitchen area.
Over the next few weeks, the Mosman Park OSHC team will conduct drills and incorporate lessons into daily routines to educate all children about the meaning of each coloured light and the corresponding actions.
The goal is to foster a more inclusive environment for all children while ensuring clear instructions during emergencies. This initiative also supports educators who may feel unsure about managing such situations.
Steevie’s initiative exemplifies our ongoing dedication to meeting the unique needs of all children in our care. It serves as a testament to how innovative solutions can foster an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported in their growth and development.
