Gymnastics / Dance

Whether your child wants to be the next star of "So You Think You Can Dance" or if you are looking to improve your child’s social skills, fitness and coordination, Morley Sport & Recreation Centre have a range of Gymnastic and Dance programs with an emphasis on having FUN !!

Adult Ballet: Expressions of Interest now being taken.

Run by our amazing and experienced Ballet guru, Pam Moore, who has a passion for dance, fitness and working with children. The YMCA Morley Sport & Recreation Centre are very happy to have Pam on the team.

Pam has an extensive background in Ballet and we want to bring the joy of ballet to children and adults alike. Ballet is not just a form of dance; it’s a discipline, form of creative expression, confidence booster and a way to keep fit and healthy.

The classes are for all levels and cater to the experienced ballerinas as well as someone who is trying it out for the very first time. All are welcome to come along and enjoy the wonderful world of Ballet.

Petite Princesses (4-6 years)
Let your child delight in imaginative play and expressive movement. Dress up as her favourite princess. Using themed props and music, your child will learn fundamental ballet steps as they develop self-confidence, self-discipline, artistic and creative awareness. Musicality and creative expression will be encouraged through Dance and performance.

Budding Ballerinas (7-11 years)
Dose your child love to Dance, dress up in a Tutu? This class focusses on teaching musicality, strength, co-ordination, personal expression and basic ballet steps in a fun, interactive, more structured manner. Your child will learn how to move and control their body through stretching and balance exercises, locomotion and response to delightful and varied music. Social interaction is also developed in partner and group work/performances.

Irish Dancing (tots to teens)
Owing to its physical nature, Irish dancing improves your child's stamina, co-ordination and fitness. Watch their social skills and confidence grow as they train as a team and perform on stage. Mental skills develop as they remember beginner moves and then entire dances, both solo and team. This addictive form of dance may lead to competitions in the future if desirable. 

Cheerleading (5-12yrs)
This class isn`t just about cheers and pom poms, it is a style of dance that incorporates gymnastics, acrobatics and trendy choreographed dance moves which involve an abundance of energy, fitness funk and fun!

Cheerleading for Teens (13-16yrs) 
This class is a style of dance that incorporates acrobatics, gymnastics and choreographed dance moves, encouraging team interaction whilst improving motivation and self esteem. Most importantly however it promotes fun, friendship and pride in physical activity.

Toddler Gym (18mths – 3.5yrs)
A fun opportunity for a child to develop their mind and body through basic gymnastic skills, music movement and social interaction. Parents participation required.

Kindy Gym (3.5yrs – 5yrs)
A progression from Toddler Gym, your child can develop their mind and body through basic gymnastic skills, music interaction and social interaction. Parent participation required.

Gym Fun (5yrs - 12yrs)
A beginners club providing children with basic skills of gymnastics. Improve coordination, flexibility, muscle strength and have fun! Beginner and Intermediate levels available.

Acrobatics (8yrs - 16yrs) 
This class combines both gymnastic basic movements and acrobatics. This combination not only allows students to develop their physical abilities (strength, flexibility, coordination and balance), but also encourages confidence and social interaction.

Hip Hop (3yrs - teens)
You watch "So You Think You Can Dance" and you want to be in the next series? Come down and learn those grooving moves! No experience necessary. Show your family and friends your moves with a concert at the end of year. Beginner and Intermediate levels available.

Jazz Ballet (3yrs - teens)
Learn a variety of warm up exercises, progressing into combinations of moves and dance steps, improving balance, coordination and flexibility while expanding creativity and self expression through movement and music.
